Display an existing forum thread's replies on a custom page. Messages remain ordinary XenForo posts in the linked thread.

Configure

  1. Add a final row with one full-width column to place the discussion below the page content.
  2. Choose Add block > Discussion.
  3. Enter the thread's URL or numeric ID in Discussion thread.
  4. Choose the display style and replies per page.
  5. Set the opening post and quick reply options, then save.

The thread must exist on this forum, be accessible to the administrator configuring it, and not be a redirect thread. Create a thread in the forum first if you need a new discussion.

Fields

FieldPurpose
TitleOptional translated heading; an empty title uses Discussion
Discussion threadURL or ID of the existing thread
Display styleFull discussion shows reply pages; Compact shows the latest replies
Replies per pageShow 3, 5 or 10 replies
Show quick replyOffer the native editor to members who can reply
Show opening postShow the first post above the selected replies

Full discussion initially opens on the last reply page. Pagination changes the discussion without leaving the custom page when JavaScript is enabled. The Compact editor opens when a member chooses Reply or quotes a message.

Replies and permissions

Quick reply uses XenForo's standard posting handler, editor, attachment upload, quoting, preview, reactions, spam checks and posting limits. Moderated posts retain their normal XenForo visibility and approval notices. Without JavaScript, submitting a reply follows the native thread flow.

Viewing the block requires access to the page, its row, the block and the thread. Publication schedules and user criteria still apply. A visitor who cannot view the thread receives no discussion block. Guests who can read it receive a login link; members without reply permission receive a read-only discussion.

The original thread's URL remains governed by its forum permissions. Restricting the custom page does not change those permissions.

Preview, embedding and search

The ACP preview follows the current administrator's forum access and displays messages without a posting form. Embedded pages show the thread link without messages or an editor. Discussion messages are not copied into the custom page's search index; XenForo indexes the original posts normally.

Global blocks and transfers

A global Discussion block shares its selected thread across placements. Each placement uses the containing page's access rules and its own editor and pagination context.

Duplicating a Discussion block, row or page clears the copied thread selection. Copying a global Discussion placement produces a local, unlinked Discussion block; the shared source is unchanged. Detaching an existing global placement preserves its selected thread.

XML and ZIP exports include display settings, not forum messages, attachments or the thread association. Select a thread again after import. As with other global blocks, importing a global key that already exists reuses that site's existing global configuration.

Example

Create a Community guide questions thread in your help forum. Add a Discussion block at the end of the Community guide page, paste its thread URL, select Full discussion and leave Show quick reply enabled. Members can ask questions beneath the guide, while the same replies remain available in the original forum thread.
