Block reference
Display existing XenForo Media Gallery content without copying its files into Page Builder. XFMG must be installed and active; it remains optional for other block types.
Configure
- Choose Add block > XFMG Media and enter an optional translated title.
- Select Categories, Album or Selected media.
- For Selected media, enter one Media ID / URL per row. Filling the final row automatically adds another field. The row order determines the display order; blank rows are ignored and duplicate items appear once. Up to 20 unique items can be selected.
- Choose media types, an entry limit and a display layout.
- Check the live preview and save.
Fields
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|
| Categories | Selected media or album categories; an empty selection includes all viewable categories. Container categories are not selectable. |
| Include personal albums | Also consider personal albums the current visitor can access. |
| Album ID | Display media from one published album, subject to its viewing permissions. |
| Media IDs / URLs | Select individual items by ID or local media URL, including native friendly and index.php URLs. Foreign hosts, unrelated routes, missing or unpublished items and items unavailable to the editor are rejected. |
| Media type | All media, images, video, audio or embeds. |
| Sort order | Newest first, Most viewed or Most reactions for category and album feeds. Selected media always follows row order. |
| Maximum entries | Between 1 and 20; fewer may be available after permission checks. |
| Display style | Grid, Mosaic, Cards, List, Strip, Slider or Showcase. |
| Columns | Maximum columns for Grid, Mosaic, Cards and Strip; narrower page columns adapt to available space. Hidden for layouts that show one main item, with its value preserved. |
| Columns on narrow screens | One or two columns for Grid, Mosaic, Cards and Strip on narrow screens. |
| Thumbnail proportions | Square, 4:3 or 16:9. Mosaic gives the first item a wider cover. |
| Image spacing / corner radius | Thumbnail spacing and rounding in pixels. |
| Show media titles | Display a linked title below each thumbnail. |
| Show author and statistics | Display the author, view count and reaction score. |
Layouts
- Grid: A responsive thumbnail grid.
- Mosaic: A wide first item followed by the grid.
- Cards: Bordered thumbnail cards with padded captions.
- List: Compact rows with a thumbnail beside the title and metadata.
- Strip: Previous and next controls move through groups sized to the available width and column settings.
- Slider: Previous and next controls switch one large item at a time.
- Showcase: One large selected item with clickable thumbnails beside it on wide screens and below it on narrow screens.
Strip, Slider and Showcase wrap at either end and do not advance automatically. Use Left/Right on their navigation controls or Showcase thumbnails; arrow direction follows RTL layouts. Home and End select the first and last group or item. Navigation is hidden when there is only one group or item. Without JavaScript, these three layouts display all items in a linked grid.
Switching layouts preserves column settings even when those controls are hidden. Thumbnail proportions, spacing, corner radius, titles and metadata remain configurable for every layout.
Visibility and previews
Each item opens on its XFMG page. Media cards and Showcase thumbnails use the custom thumbnail selected in XFMG when available, otherwise the original thumbnail or an icon. Uploaded video, audio and embeds open in XFMG for playback.
Only published media that the visitor can view is displayed. Private and shared album rules, category permissions, unpublished albums and ignored authors apply to every source, including manually entered IDs. A public page hides the entire block when nothing is available. The ACP preview explains empty results instead.
Previews use the administrator's permissions, which can differ from a guest's. Check public viewing permissions separately. Media titles and author information come from XFMG; only the block title is translated through Page Builder.
Disabling XFMG hides this block type and its public output without deleting the saved settings. Re-enabling XFMG restores the available type.
Copies and transfers
Local block and page copies, global blocks and detached global placements continue to reference the same XFMG content. They do not duplicate media files.
XML and ZIP exports contain presentation settings but clear category, album and media IDs. After import, the block stays hidden until its source is selected again and saved. This also applies to imports on the same forum. XFMG must be active to import pages using this block type.
Example
For a photography landing page, choose Categories, select the photography category, filter Images and use Newest first with six entries. Choose Grid with three desktop columns and one narrow-screen column. Use Selected media instead for a curated selection whose order should remain fixed.
