Link multiple XenForo accounts, log in as another linked user, and switch between accounts without entering a password every time.
Members authenticate a secondary account once using its login credentials and two-step verification when enabled. The linked account then becomes available from the visitor menu or dedicated account switcher page for fast one-click switching. Optional two-way linking allows either account to switch back to the other.
This provides a convenient way to switch users or log in as another linked account while keeping each XenForo account separate. Account access remains secure: links are tied to the linked account's current password, so changing that password automatically revokes existing access.
Features:
One-Click Account Switching: Switch between linked accounts directly from the visitor menu without entering the account password again.
Login as Another User: Log in as another linked user with one click after the account has been securely linked.
Multiple Linked Accounts: Connect multiple accounts and manage them from a dedicated account page.
Quick Account Registration: Optionally let members register a new account from the link-account page without logging out. The new account is linked automatically and follows the board's registration rules, including email confirmation and manual approval.
Return to Current Page: Optionally return to the same page after switching accounts.
Current Account Indicator: Optionally display the currently active account first in the visitor menu and account management list.
Visitor Menu Integration: Display linked accounts in a dedicated visitor menu tab for quick access.
Account Sorting: Sort linked accounts by the date they were added or last used.
Progressive Menu Loading: Limit the initial account list and load additional linked accounts in configurable batches.
Unread Counters: View unread alert and direct message counts for linked accounts before switching, and optionally show them for the current account.
Linked Account Alerts: Optionally read the alerts of each linked account from a native-style dropdown in the visitor menu or account page without switching to it. Alerts remain unread until explicitly marked as read from the dropdown, and accounts that require two-step verification on switch stay protected.
Linked Account Direct Messages: Optionally read the direct messages of each linked account from a native-style dropdown in the visitor menu or account page without switching to it. Messages remain unread until explicitly marked as read from the dropdown, and accounts that require two-step verification on switch stay protected.
Optional Two-Way Account Links: Allow linked accounts to switch back to the original account. Members can configure this per link, while administrators can enforce or disable two-way linking globally.
Existing Link Access: Continue using existing valid account links after losing permission to manage links, including switching back through mutual links.
Account Link Alerts: Notify an account whenever another member links to it and indicate whether reciprocal switching is allowed.
Two-Step Verification Support: Require two-step verification when linking an account and optionally require it again on every account switch.
Automatic Access Revocation: Automatically invalidate all incoming account links when the linked account changes its password or enables two-step verification.
Administrator & Staff Protection: Prevent administrator, staff, or moderator accounts from being linked when configured.
Linking Without Permission: Allow accounts that cannot manage account links themselves to still be linked to, or restrict linking to accounts that hold the permission.
Account Management Page: Review linked accounts, add new links, configure reciprocal access, and unlink accounts from a dedicated account page.
Moderator Profile Tab: Allow selected moderators to review a member's linked accounts, link type, date added, last use, and availability from a read-only profile tab.
Administrator User Tab: Allow selected administrators to review both outgoing and incoming account links, usage dates, switch counts, link direction, and availability from the user edit page, with a separately permissioned bulk unlink action.
Automatic Cleanup: Automatically remove account links that have not been used for a configurable number of days.
Permissions:
Manage Account Links: Allow members to add linked accounts. Existing links remain usable and can still be removed if this permission is later removed. Accounts without the permission can still be linked to unless that is restricted, but they never receive a two-way link.
Maximum Linked Accounts: Configure the maximum number of accounts a member can link.
Maximum Registered Accounts: Configure how many accounts a member can register through quick registration.
View Users' Linked Accounts: Allow moderators to access the read-only linked-accounts tab on member profiles.
View Linked Accounts in User Edit: Allow administrators to access the read-only linked-accounts tab while editing users in the control panel.
Unlink Linked Accounts in User Edit: Allow administrators to select and bulk unlink account links from the user edit tab. Two-way links are removed in both directions.
FAQ:
- What happens when a linked account changes its password or enables two-step verification?
All incoming links to that account are automatically invalidated, so access cannot continue with an outdated authentication state and the account has to be linked again. - Does the add-on support two-step verification?
Yes. Two-step verification is always respected while linking an account and can also be required for every subsequent account switch. - Can both accounts switch back to each other?
Yes. Two-way links can be optional, mandatory, or disabled globally. When optional, the member chooses whether to enable it for each new link. - Can accounts without the permission be linked to?
Yes, if the administrator allows it. Those accounts can be linked as one-way destinations, but cannot create or manage their own links. - Can administrators, staff, and moderators be protected from linking?
Yes. Separate options control whether administrator accounts and staff or moderator accounts may be linked or switched to. - Can the number of linked accounts be limited?
Yes. The Maximum Linked Accounts permission can set a numeric limit or allow unlimited links. - Will inactive account links be removed automatically?
Yes. The administrator can set an inactivity period after which unused links are removed, or set it to zero to keep them indefinitely.
